Tea on Tuesday- Merry Christmas!!!!!

Standard

Wouldn’t this be a perfect place to have a Christmas tea, huddled down in front of a roaring fireplace, with snow falling softly outside…..??

If we lived in England, we could – here is the link

For me, today, my tea will be in a cozy chair, the whole house warmed by the basement wood stove, surrounded by family, and critters (mustn’t forget the critters!).

scene

As I stare into the computer- I want to wish you ALL a very happy holiday, Merry Christmas, all the tea you can drink- and I hope I will “see” you all many times in the coming year.

Chim Chiminey, Chim Chiminey……

Standard

Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky
As lucky can be………….

I do SO beg to differ!!!!

I was just outside, before the frigid rain started – helping Mr. Green Jeans clean our 2 chimneys!!

Haute couture chimney sweep attire……..hat to ward off rain and soot, glasses to prevent soot from getting in the eyes, D/H’s police raincoat to keep me clean (and it had me tripping all over the place!)

IMG_9540

He was atop the roof, and I was on the ground supposedly  to pull the brush thru the chimney and release a couple of years’ worth of  encrusted ash and soot.

IMG_9542

Sunny, staring out the 2nd floor window, growling at this mysteriously garbed person in the back yard!!! (that would be me!)

IMG_9546

Mr. Green Jeans, taking the caps off

                                                                                                                  WELL!!!!

1st chimney was easy – not much soot at all.

IMG_9541

The 2nd chimney, needed someone with quite a bit more brute strength that I can muster- to try to yank, pull, and/or cajole this brush down and out!!!

Mr. Green Jeans- aka chief chimney sweep, had to climb up and down from the roof, multiple times to get the brush thru.

I was basically of little use!! LOL

On the last try, I did manage to pull the brush thru’- and I am sure my arms and legs will suffer for it in a day or so.

IMG_9548

Clearly, from my point of view, hardly worth all the effort. But, at least it is done!!!

Now, I suppose, we are safe from a chimney fire (fingers crossed!) But, it would have been well worth the money to ME, to have a professional come in and do it.

At least, I did not get covered in soot, and Mr. G.J. did not fall off the roof.

So, all’s well, that ends well – AND, we are still speaking to each other…..!!LOL

And, I SWEAR, this song was running thru’ my brain the WHOLE time!!!!!

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky
As lucky can be

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when
I shake ‘ands with you
Or blow me a kiss
And that’s lucky too

Now as the ladder of life
‘As been strung
You may think a sweep’s
On the bottommost rung

Though I spends me time
In the ashes and smoke
In this ‘ole wide world
There’s no ‘appier bloke

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky
As lucky can be

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when
I shake ‘ands with you
Or blow me a kiss
And that’s lucky too

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky
As lucky can be

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when
I shake ‘ands with you
Or blow me a kiss
And that’s lucky too

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
When you’re with a sweep
You’re in glad company

No where is there
A more ‘appier crew
Than them wot sings
“Chim chim cher-ee
Chim cher-oo!”
On the chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee
Chim cher-oo!

Hard to choose – but I think my favorites are the little “cottages” and the window with the flower box!!!

Wonder if I can get Mr Green Jeans to do some artistic stacking next season……….hhhmmmmmm

Tea on Tuesday

Standard

I sit here,  sipping today’s tea,  sent to me from mi amiga, Teresa, from one of her many sojourns to France- -Fauchon Paris, a “tea for two” –fruit rouges et miel (red fruits and honey). Of course, my teacup is loaded down with local honey- I enjoy a little tea WITH my honey!!!

Gazing out the window, at the fog – another un-December-like day, and a week before Christmas.

The world seems to have taken on another hue.

The fog here covers a multitude of sins in the world…….or does it?

The chores of the day remain the same as every day, but the air we breath is a bit tainted, by sadness, the news bombarding us over the airwaves, and the grim reality of the world.

But, the donkeys still greet me with their squeaky voices- happy that breakfast is arriving, along with hugs and nuzzles. The dogs are ecstatic that they are going to the barn to eat poop and check out the scents of who visited/trespassed during the night!

I must get to the PO today, to mail a stack of our traditional anise flavored pizzelles to the son in San Francisco.

Then, finally, back to the basement studio, to sew up a couple of pillowcases for some children in Connecticut- to be filled with sweet dreams.

Made with love, and sewn with thread that hopefully, will magically ward off the nightmares that come to children in the dark of night.  Each of my pillowcases will have a tiny heart hidden inside, to let them know they are loved, by persons unknown.

If you have a few minutes today, and would like to make a pillowcase or two out of fabric from your stash- they need to be received by December 27th!!! Hurry, hurry!!!!!

Mail them to:

Quilters Corner

312 Danbury Rd

New Milford, Connecticut 06776

She hopes to collect 600 (!) pillowcases!!!!

Here is a link to a pillowcase tutorial – but it’s simple enough to use one of your own pillowcases for a pattern.

Drop by and join us for tea every Tuesday , I am here other days of the week, so feel free to come by anytime, leave a comment, become a follower, let me know you were here!!!

Don’t forget to visit Patty – for a list of other tea fanciers……..

Playing Along With Seth……..

Standard

Yesterday, Seth Apter posted the next installment of his 5X5 art collaboration – and I am one of those in it!

As usual, Seth gets people to spread their artsy wings, even if, they are not skilled at “flying” that way (like me!!!)

It was fun to play along – and fun to see my art again!

Drop by Seth’s blog, and check it out!!! Visit the links of the other participating artists.

If you are not already a follower of Seth’s- what are you waiting for????? You definitely should be- he is one of the kings of mixed media art!

An Artistic Eye……

Standard

My daughter and I share a love of photography.

We see beauty in everything, and take pictures of everything!!!LOL

Katie is starting a side business with her new camera. She is a dental assistant by day, and a self taught photographer in every other spare moment!

She has a Facebook page called Four Leaf Clover Photography, and is running a contest right now.

If you go to her FB page, LIKE it, AND SHARE it- you will be entered in a drawing to win a free 8×10 print of your choice from her gallery of photos!!

Pretty cool !!!

I’d love to see her get to 50 fans by Friday (day of the drawing)- but even more would be great!!! A mother’s dream for her child…….:>)

Networking on the internet is an amazing thing! So, please check out Katie’s FB page, like her work, share with your friends, maybe even mention it on your blog or twitter page!!! Spread the word!

I would sooo appreciate it…….

**********Shooting Stars ***********

Standard

At 4:51 am , the dog decided he had to go potty…..sigh.

Sunny always needs an escort, so up I get, and take him downstairs.

While waiting for him, I glanced out the window and remembered that this was the time of another meteor shower- the Geminid. December 13-14 is supposed to be good viewing.

I grabbed my coat and stepped out onto the back deck, gazing skyward and toward the east.  Almost immediately,  I caught a glimpse of a shooting star in my peripheral vision.

Within a few minutes, I was rewarded with the sight of a full on “tiny” meteor hurtling toward the horizon.

This was probably not the height of the shower, but I was able to catch sight of a few stragglers. Blink, and you would miss them.

It turned out to be a perfectly clear night (or early morning), a vast blackness of cavernous sky, dotted with every constellation known to man.

The soundtrack of the show was the early morning song of the roosters from all over the Gap. Not the cacophony  one would expect from a rooster crowing to greet the dawn, instead, their multiple voices resulted in a soft backround music that was perfect with the black backdrop of twinkling sky. The wild early birds had not yet risen, so the roosters were the first to herald the coming dawn.

Standing out in the COLD, under a huge canopy of sky, one is reminded how small we really are, in the scope of the world.

If it stays clear tonite, I may bundle up after dark, and go lie out on the picnic table, and look up, and maybe I will be lucky enough to see more of the sky show that is the Perseid meteor shower.

As a friend once said to me the last time this show came to town…..” Can I sell anyone a ticket to the meteor shower? ”

Greatest show on earth………  ***
